Counseling Services

Choosing a therapist is an important decision.   You should feel confident and secure in your counselor's professionalism and competence.   I appreciate your consideration of my services.   The information below is designed to help you understand my treatment philosophy so that you can make an informed choice.

Counseling Services

I am a private practioner with Lakeshore Educational & Counseling Services providing individual and couple therapy for adolescents through adults.   I address a range of issues including:

  • Relationships and marital counseling
  • Career and/or life transitions
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Grief
  • Eating disorders
  • Self-injury
  • Relational aggression and bullying
  • Assertiveness and self-esteem
  • Circle of F.R.I.E.N.D.S. (social skill development for girls ages 8-14)

Educational Experience

My educational experience includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and a Master of Arts Degree in Education. I am also licensed by the State of Ohio as a Professional Counselor.  My professional memberships include the American Counseling Association and the Ohio Counseling Association.

In conjunction with state licensing requirements, I receive 30 CEU hours of clinical education every two years, including a mandatory ethics review course.

What to Expect

The first session will be an assessment of your need for counseling.   We will look at the presenting problem and explore together the best way to move through the thoughts and feelings you are experiencing.   We will jointly determine the direction and time frame for your counseling, as well as goals and focus areas.

Each case is considered on an individual basis.   We may decide that a few sessions are all that is needed, or we may continue to meet weekly for several weeks or months.

Appointments

I have found that meeting weekly is the best approach to counseling.   Meeting weekly gives us an opportunity to assess your concerns and progress on a regular basis.   As we continue through the counseling process, appointments may be scheduled less frequently.   Counseling will be most effective if we are both committed to your emotional, physical and spiritual health.
